Our Story

Every cup has a story.
Ours begins with Roja.

Inspired by generations of South Indian hospitality, Roja was created to share the warmth, comfort, and tradition of authentic filter coffee.

Pencil portrait of Ammamma

Meet Roja

The woman who made a house feel like home.

Roja was my ammamma. No one arrived at her home without being handed a steel tumbler of filter coffee within minutes of stepping through the door.

Her home was always full. Family visited often, friends stopped by, and coffee was almost always brewing. Her coffee became part of those mornings, those conversations, and the kind of home people naturally returned to.

These are the memories that inspired Roja Coffee.

Gathering Around Coffee

Coffee brought everyone together.

In our family, mornings began with what we call Coffee Kaburlu.

Coffee Kaburlu (kah-boo-roo-loo)

noun — from the Telugu word kaburlu, meaning stories or conversations

Unhurried conversations over coffee — filled with stories, laughter, advice, and the simple joy of being together.

Years later, Coffee Kaburlu is still how our family begins many mornings. Those moments remind us that the best conversations happen when we slow down and simply make time for one another.

Today, Roja Coffee exists to help create more Coffee Kaburlu around tables everywhere.

Ammamma
Araku Valley, Eastern Ghats

Origin

Inspired by Araku Valley.

Visiting Araku Valley with my ammamma left an impression I've never shaken — mist over the hills, the smell of ripening coffee cherries, and her hand in mine. Today, Roja sources Arabica from this same region, not only for its exceptional coffee, but because it is a place woven into family memory.

Coorg Robusta
